Is Objectum Sexuality (AKA Objectophilia) Wrong

How does Objectum Sexuality (OS) violate the Code of Ethics any more than LGBT does? It is heavily frowned down upon by most. Less than 500 people in this world are OS. The DSM-V4 identifies it as a disorder. Is it really? Or is it nothing more than an Asperger’s-induced nonconformist orientation? Sure, a lot of my OS friends are in their 20s and act like they‘re 10 years old, but that’s because OS is almost always coupled with Asperger’s.

What I‘m wondering is that, if my friend wants to be in love with the Statue of Liberty, and if I want to be in love with my calculator, why should anyone else be concerned? Why is it that this orientation is so frowned down upon? I‘m not hurting myself if I love my calculator. I‘m not hurting anyone else. It’s not hurting my social relationships. What’s hurting my social relationships is the constant negativity I get from my orientation. Is it so different from being gay or lesbian? Sure, one could argue „It’s an inanimate object! They aren‘t sentient nor can they reciprocate love!“ However, most OS people are animists. Many orientations and opinions are supported/rejected due to religion. Shouldn‘t OS be protected on terms of the belief of animism?

Sorry I‘m not more organized. I‘m a bit scatterbrained today.

I seriously don‘t understand why would you call it wrong. If I buy a chair and develop true feelings for it, who are you to say that I‘m not allowed to love it? I don‘t see how my sex life concerns you, unless I‘m harming somebody and I am not harming anybody by having sex with a chair.

read an article the other day about a woman and her ferriswheel Bruce. This wasn‘t the first time I‘d heard about OS-- the first being ‚Strange Sex‘ on…whatever that channel is. I haven‘t had cable in so long, I‘ve forgotten how to television [facepalm]

To be completely honest I‘ve not done an honest pinch of research, so my opinions are limited to admitted ignorance on the subject.

My first reaction was „WTF“ followed by „Why?“ and coming in strong at „How does this happen?“. It’s not something I would ever want for myself (not to imply that OS individuals choose this willingly..or do they?), nor do I see myself ready to accept it as a recognized sexual affiliation. On an instinctual level, this extreme act of social-sexual deviance makes me uncomfortable. Nature drives me to reproduce to ensure the survival of our race. My upbringing taught me to want my act of procreation to be with someone I cared for greatly and ulimately wanted to annoy the rest of my life. It is impossible to procreate with an inanimate object. To conclude, I‘m very put off by this sexual preference.

I admit, part of my discomfort and prejudice is my fear of the unknown and what I cannot understand. But the dying idealist and free thinker in me says „F-it. Live and let live. Love and be loved.“, or perhaps that’s my denied inner RA|Moon BraZillah cuf cuf UFO London.

Is Charisma a Good Thing?
Often, if one asks about what makes/made Leader X a good leader, one hears that Leader X is „charismatic“. The concept of charistmatic leaders and ‚charisma‘ as a term of high praise, itself comes to the English-speaking world from Max Weber and his analysis of the three sources of authority: tradition, reason and charisma.

Is charisma a good attribute in a leader? If so, why so? If not, why not?

[1]In Pokémon: the First Movie, a situation develops in which the elusive, ancient, and powerful pokémon, Mew, is cloned from DNA found in a fossil. The result of this operation is the creation of Mewtwo, a flawed and evil version of the original. Driven by a crisis of identity, Mewtwo agonizes over his status as a clone, melodramatically wondering aloud, “Am I only a copy!?” And then goes on to declare a war upon humanity, striving to pave the way for a New World Order of pokémon clones. This, of course, doesn’t happen. But the set of relationships that this storyline enumerates is can be read as a rather sophisticated allegory for contemporary geopolitics.
[2] Key to this discussion is the linguistic capacity of Mewtwo. His ability to express his motives is necessary to an understanding of the plot, which in itself supports claims I have made elsewhere that poke-speak’s lack of variation and untranslatability/only-translatability is characteristic of their status as an “Other.” The presumption is that its motives need to be expressed because its desires generate the conflict and drive the plot; the effect is that Mewtwo’s motives resemble our own closely enough that they cease to be so radically “Other”—even if they are judged to be morally reprehensible. To clarify, the poke-speaking pokémon cannot be understood because their motives are unimportant and alien. The trainer is freed to translate and produce satisfactory meanings. Mewtwo cannot be trained, but can negotiate with humanity because its mode of thinking is consistent with our own—he is driven by a personal quest for identity.
[3]Mewtwo’s dual citizenship (human/pokémon) is the product of the technological/industrial relationship between first and third worlds. Following the logic of what has prompted some scholars to prefer the term “developing world” for the third world, Mewtwo is a pokémon in development, the product of an exploitative technical advancement. The vaguely identified scientists (emblems of a militarized technoscience) involved in Mewtwo’s creation churn Mew’s DNA (seized from the tropics) through their machine in order to create a westernized version of the original. But rather than produce a useful subject, they create something else entirely. This Frankenstein’s monster story is described by Deleuze and Guattari: “On the contrary, central capitalism needs the periphery constituted by the Third World, where it locates a large part of its most modern industries; it does not just invest capital in these industries, but is also furnished capital by them” (465).

Zola Jesus is the sta
ge name of Russian-American singer-songwriter Nika Roza Danilova (born 11 April 1989 in Phoenix, Arizona and raised in Merrill, Wisconsin). Her music style combines electronic, industrial, classical, goth, and experimental rock influences.

Nika Roza Danilova was raised in Merrill, Wisconsin, on over 100 acres of forest. Danilova started singing early on, buying voice lesson tapes and opera sheet music at the age of 7; soon she began working with a vocal coach. It was not her parents’ idea: “I begged them to do it. For some reason, I really wanted to sing opera even though I wasn’t really exposed to it as a kid. I think my little baby toddler mind heard some opera song and then became fixated on how powerful it sounded,” she later remembered. Danilova started performing opera when she was 10 years old, but experienced serious psychological difficulties. “I would too often lose my voice before performances due to anxiety, and was so hard on myself. I would beat myself up about any imperfections or flaws in my voice. I was such a perfectionist, and my voice was still so young so it couldn’t do everything I wanted it to, and I resented myself for that. But since performing as Zola Jesus it’s been getting easier,” she later recalled. 19:04 Chat by BummerHosting.com 5.0, Build #702

In her teens, Danilova started to experiment in a more rock-orientated format. By naming her alter ego after Jesus Christ and the French writer Émile Zola she said she consciously wanted to alienate peers. “It worked perfectly – a lot of people wouldn’t even say Zola Jesus because they thought it was sacrilegious”, she said in an interview. “Using Jesus in my name isn’t necessarily supposed to be a strong statement. I respect religion and I know people do need it, but it’s a weird phenomenon in our world. It’s so weird,” she later commented. Inspired by favorites like Ian Curtis, Lydia Lunch, Diamanda Galás, Throbbing Gristle and Swans (but also bubblegum pop and classical aria), she started to record at home, using keyboards, drum machines and “anything else she had on hand”. In 2008 she debuted with singles “Poor Sons” on Die Stasi and “Soeur Sewer” on Sacred Bones Records.

A manufacturer produces a product the full use of which will violate the law. The product can also be used to cheat in a type of competition.

Details:

Amateur radio operators in are licensed by their governments to transmit with power up to a maximum limit. In the U.S. this limit is 1500 watts.

International amateur radio competitions are popular and involve much skill, time and money invested into a competitive station. The rules of these competitions forbid power exceeding 1500 watts, or the maximum power the licensee is allowed by his government to run, whichever is less.

A manufacturer produces an amplifier capable of producing 4500 watts, or three times the maximum power allowed in contests. The manufacturer knows that using the amplifier above 1500 watts violates the law and when used in competition is cheating. No one would purchase this $15,000 amplifier to use at 1500 watts when 1500 watt amplifiers are available for much less money.

I view this through the ethics of consequentialism, specifically negative consequentialism. The manufacturer knows there are negative consequences to the use of this product. Is the manufacturer acting unethically when they produce this product?

The same could be said of almost any product that has laws governing its use or potential. When was the last time you saw a car with the maximum speed of 70 as it is in a lot of countries. When have you seen a gun that was made so it could not shot people.

The makers might be doing wrong by providing people with these products, but the people are the ones that use them.

There are ways to regulate the speed of cars without removing power and ways of making sure that guns can only be used by their owners but the cost of them would be higher and therefore sales lower.

The Microphones is the name of a project that Anacortes, WA’s Phil Elvrum has headed since the late 90s. Its sound is best described as lo-fi “fuzz folk,” ranging from drum-crashing, bass-thrashing sonic freakouts, strummy classical guitar love songs, angelic vocal choirs, and almost-whispered vocals over harmoniums and bell kits. In 2004, Elverum abandoned the “Microphones” name to begin recording as Mount Eerie. But in December 2007, he began selling a new 7” single by the Microphones (“Don’t Smoke” / “Get Off The Internet”) on his website and at concerts, suggesting that the project is not yet over. Microphones members/collaborators include Karl Blau, Dennis Driscoll, Kyle Field aka Little Wings, Mirah, Khaela Maricich aka The Blow, Adrian Orange aka Thanksgiving, Adam Forkner and K Records’ founder, Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening and The Halo Benders.

Catherine Liu et.al., The Dreams of Interpretation
Review by L. Michael Sacasas
University of Central Uni|*)Bass°Florida

Catherine Liu, John Mowitt, Thomas Pepper, and Jakki Spicer, editors., The Dreams of Interpretation: A Century down the Royal Road. Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press, 2007. 379 pp. $25.00 (978-0816648009)

[1] From the ancient tale we now know as The Epic of Gilgamesh to the 2010 Hollywood blockbuster Inception, dreams have captivated the human imagination. Manuals of dream interpretation are among the oldest extant texts from Egypt and Mesopotamia, and the monarch’s troubling dream and its interpretation was a set piece in ancient literature. Since then, however, dream interpretation has been democratized. Nestled among the tabloids, one can always find pocket size guides to dreams and their meanings for sale at the supermarket check-out aisle. Of course, among the professionals, it is now the psychoanalyst, not the court sage, who is occupied with dream interpretation, and Sigmund Freud remains the person most closely associated with the practice, even for those who have never read a word of The Interpretation of Dreams. So deeply has his work on dreams permeated the popular imagination, that a popularized Freudianism underlies the approach to dreams taken by many who have never heard the name of Freud.

[2] Freud completed The Interpretation of Dreams in 1899, but he postdated the book to 1900 so that it may be the first book of the new century. So profoundly did Freud shape the thought of Western culture over the course of the ensuing 100 years, that it may justly be called the first book in the older Latin sense of prima, not merely first in a sequence, but also in primacy of significance. At the start of a new century, in the year 2000, a group of scholars and practitioners of psychoanalysis gathered at the University of Minnesota to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Freud’s Dream Book. It was at this conference, „The Dreams of Interpretation/The Interpretation of Dreams,“ that most of the papers comprising The Dreams of Interpretation: A Century down the Royal Road were first presented.

[3] The conference began, and the book appropriately concludes, with a paper by Mary Lydon who was to pass away seven short months later. In her presentation, Lydon remarked,

The topic of this conference, „The Dreams of Interpretation/The Interpretation of Dreams,“ is enough to set one dreaming – about dreams, one’s own and others, about Freud’s theory of dreams and the dream of psychoanalytic theory, what Shoshana Felman calls „the ongoing psychoanalytic dream of understanding,“ about the dream of the conference, about what I dream of doing in this introductory talk …. For no less than dream interpretation, dreaming and especially telling one’s dreams have consequences …. (359)

As the editors note in their introduction, however, it was not long after the halcyon days of the conference that dreams gave way to nightmares and „cries of Terror!“ With a knowing, world-weary tone the editors castigate „the religions of Abraham“ for their descent into „apparently unsoundable atavistic depths,“ and, perhaps stretching credulity a bit thin, link the assertions of terror with assertions of the death of psychoanalysis in the popular media (xiv). [1] Both assertions, they claim, „are of the same piece“ and betray a „structural regression, and an angry one at that.“ Moreover, „the hallucinations of terror, and of a terror characterized by the unwelcome realization of other monotheisms, of other claims to worship another one-and-only god, are rooted in fantasies in which the need to believe in the All Good Father, and to have him at one’s side“ lead necessarily to the rejection of any other monotheistic claims [editors‘ emphasis] (xv). This rather tortured prose borders on tautology, monotheists reject competing monotheisms, but less obviously, these fantasies, according to the editors, also lead to the rejection of

In the words of Timothy W. Luke (1998),

„Many of the most important political debates in this generation center upon working through the practical implications in a handful of discursive dualisms: Nature/Society, Ecology/Economy, Environment/Organism. With each couplet, ongoing arguments contest the terms themselves: where one stops and the other starts, how the first limits the second, why each cannot exist without the other, what directives in the first guide the second, when the latter endangers the former are all questions sustaining innumerable intellectual exchanges.“

In short, instead of simply surrounding as passive, exterior set of circumstances, the environment actively environs and conditions the interior, making exterior circumstance a condition of interior essence, as ground for action and decision, in a figure/ground oscillation. As Luke (1998) explains, one historical sense of environing is as a type of military, police or strategic action. To environ is to beset, beleaguer or besiege a place or person, in a strategic disciplinary policing of space.
